Eradikid & Kick talk about Life, Inspirations, and their new track “Scarz”
“It’s Wednesday my dudes”, and another Wednesday means another dose of your weekly prescribed wubs from the Wubaholics team. This week’s release and artist spotlight focuses on the track “Scarz” by up and coming producers Eradikid and Kick. The 21 and 23 year old delivered a certified BANGER with Eradikid bringing that old school vibe on the drums and Kick with the brain melting sound design, the track shouldn’t even be legal. It pushes boundaries and is guaranteed to put a smile (or bass face) on any bass enthusiast. In today’s artist spotlight we got the chance to talk to Eradikid and Kick, we chatted about their backgrounds, what motivates them, and also had the privilege to get a little behind the scenes look of what went into creating the new track.
We all have bad things in our life that we wish to get rid of. Whether it be bad habits, toxic people, or just negativity in general. And Eradikid is no different. In fact, that is precisely what inspired the name behind the Eradikid project. A kid at heart, he says “I figured that the only thing that I have to do in order to succeed at my craft and be happy with myself as a human being was to Eradicate all the shit that was keeping me away from pursuing my dream” While he is still working on his flaws just like the rest of us, it’s definitely helpful to always be reminded of that core principle every time he sees the name.
While one might first assume that the name “Kick” originates from the kick of a drum, the history of the name actually dates back to his childhood days. Growing up playing football, Jake Friant’s main position was always kicker. So naturally a couple of friends gave him the nickname kick and before he knew it, he had a lifelong nickname.
While Kick would be playing college football somewhere right now if he never found the world of bass music, Eradikid tells us that if he wasn’t pursuing music, he would probably be a chef somewhere as cooking is his second favorite hobby behind producing. Whether it be whipping something up in the kitchen or producing beats, it seems as though cooking up the gas is something that is inevitable for him.
When it comes to what first introduced them to the industry, Kick tells us that it was hearing that iconic Love Sosa by RL Grime for the first time. “After my brother showed me love Sosa by RL Grime it was over, I was hooked on the feeling it gave me.” I think a lot of us remember the way we felt when we first heard that song, a game changer in the industry for sure.
Eradikid also had a similar experience. Whilst browsing on youtube one day like all of us do, he stumbled across a clip of somebody dropping Knife Party’s remix to “Crush on You” by Nero. As a fan of heavy music already, he was enthralled by the sounds he heard in this video and immediately started doing research as to how these sounds were being made. Both artists say that their sound nowadays is heavily inspired by the legends EAZYBAKED. With Eradikid showing love to Mr Carmack and Kick praising Smoakland. Which is no surprise as he recently released an EP over on Left Coast Extracts called “Ass, Weed, & Bass” with artist “Donny.” (We highly recommend listening to that entire project if you have not already.)
As to what went into this collab, the producers say it only took about 5 days of sending stuff back and forth and bouncing ideas off of each other before they arrived at the finished product. Which is absolutely insane to think about. In regards to what it’s like working on a collab, kick says “I think a collaboration is easier if you can take ‘no I’m not feeling that’ for an answer.“ Meaning it is important to put that ego aside and be able to look at your music from a different perspective instead of just thinking your stuff is always better. There is always room for growth and improvement. And it seems that this collaboration brought out the best in both artists. When it comes to the name “Scarz” and why they chose it, Eradikid challenges everyone to listen to the track and try to figure it out for themselves. So be sure to tweet us @wubaholics @eradikid @bassbykick if you think you’ve figured it out!
It's clear that both Kick and Eradikid have a deep passion for the art they are creating. And they both tell us that one day they would like to have music pay the bills and be something that they can do full time so they can focus all of their energy towards perfecting their craft. If you listen to any of their music, it is clear that this shared goal of theirs is not far out of reach. They are producing some of the craziest sounds in the game right now and at only 21 and 23 years old, are on the path to leading the next generation of experimental bass producers. We are absolutely thrilled to now have them as part of the Wubaholics family for this release and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for these two talented producers.
